Spirituality and enlightenment form the basis of Bulgaria’s unity, progress, and national confidence, President Rumen Radev said during a ceremony marking the National Awakeners' Day at the Coat of Arms Hall of the President's Administration on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, the national flag was raised in front of the presidential building to mark the occasion. Radev noted that hundreds of Bulgarians would have the opportunity to see priceless relics representing the country’s spiritual and linguistic heritage.

“Drawing from the past is not an end in itself. Standing on our traditions and patriotism, we can face the future with dignity. Like our Revival leaders, we must seek Bulgaria’s place in the modern world,” the President said, adding that the mission of spiritual awakening continues through today’s young generation.

Radev presented honorary certificates to outstanding Bulgarian students for their achievements in education, science, art, and civic engagement, describing them as “young awakeners who already make Bulgaria proud.” He praised their perseverance and talent, emphasizing that true success is achieved “not through deceit or conformity, but through will, discipline, and dedication.”

“The world is open to your talent, but I believe you have also learned the most important lesson - that of patriotism and dignity, without which all knowledge loses meaning,” Radev said, expressing confidence that the spirit of Bulgaria’s Revival leaders lives on through them.

Among those attending the ceremony were Vice President Iliana Iotova, Patriarch and Sofia Metropolitan Daniil, members of Parliament, Constitutional Court judges, military officers, BTA Deputy Director General Evgenia Drumeva, and citizens.
